Our History

Protecting Your Rights...
It's What We Do

A Reputation for Success

Nance Cacciatore was founded in 1963 with the intent of serving individuals in need throughout Brevard County and the entire state of Florida. Based in Melbourne, our firm has a long history of achieving significant, noteworthy successes on behalf of our clients. Our attorneys have handled cases that have not only resulted in record-setting settlements and verdicts but have also helped change and shape Florida law.

Some of our notable cases include:

  • The Juliana Mason Case: In 1971, Nance Cacciatore secured the first million-dollar verdict on behalf of a Black man in the United States. Juliana Mason was severely injured when the roof of a Sears building collapsed. Mason, who was a concrete worker, fell 20 feet and was paralyzed from the waist down. Attorneys at our firm successfully fought against juror prejudice regarding awarding damages to an African American individual, ultimately achieving a verdict of $1 million on Mason’s behalf. This was not only the first million-dollar verdict awarded to a Black man in the U.S., but also the first million-dollar verdict achieved in Brevard County.
  • Florida vs. the Tobacco Industry: Nance Cacciatore was one of just nine law firms chosen by the government to represent the state of Florida against the tobacco industry in 1997. The case ended up being one of the largest civil cases in U.S. history, with the Florida case being the largest in the history of the state. Our firm represented the state of Florida in seeking economic damages related to the medical costs associated with treating Medicaid recipients for various medical conditions caused by smoking. The Florida case ultimately settled for $11.3 billion.
  • The Harbour Cay Condo Collapse: On March 27, 1981, the five-story Harbour Cay Condominium residential development project in Cocoa Beach, Florida collapsed during construction, resulting in the deaths of 11 people. Another 27 people suffered serious injuries. Two years later, our firm, alongside two others, represented the victims in a landmark case that resulted in a $10.3 million settlement. As a result of this tragedy, the state of Florida enacted stricter construction and engineering codes, a precedent that was soon followed by other states throughout the U.S.

In addition to these notable cases, our firm has handled numerous cases on behalf of severely injured individuals and the families of those wrongfully killed in all types of accidents over the decades. We have secured many historic million- and multimillion-dollar settlements and verdicts for our clients. We consider ourselves privileged to be able to represent these individuals and fight for the justice they deserve.
